The new President of Lebanon was a Christian politician, head of the party, the Free Patriotic movement 81-year-old Michel Aoun. Earlier policies led the country’s armed forces, reports Euronews.
According to the newspaper, the new President will have to bring Lebanon out of the political crisis. Two and a half years, the Parliament could not elect the President of the country. He will represent the Catholic Maronites, the most numerous Christian community of Lebanon. In accordance with the laws of Lebanon, the President of the country can only be a Christian.
The President was elected by Parliament after 45 failed attempts. The Michel Aoun was supported by two thirds of the deputies.
