The Austrian government wants to achieve a softening of EU sanctions against Russia that were imposed because of the war in Ukraine. This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs of Austria Sebastian Kurz, reports the German newspaper Spiegel.
“We need to re-establish trust in Europe and to move from the system of punishment through sanctions on the path of establishing a system of incentives,” said Kurtz.
Austria intends to seek changes to the sanctions policy against Russia via the OSCE, which will be chaired from January 2017.
