The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Belarus has stated that the decision to expel a diplomat of the Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine “absolutely baseless”. This was stated by the Deputy head of the foreign Ministry of Belarus Andrei Shuplyak, Radio Liberty reports.

The Belarusian side “expressed regret in connection with this unfriendly step by Kiev.”

17 November 2017, it became known that in Belarus on charges of “espionage” detained correspondent of the Ukrainian radio, Ukrainian citizen Pavel Sharoika. The KGB said that Sharoika is a member of the Gur, he allegedly created a spy network from among the citizens of Belarus, “who for a reward followed their instructions to collect information of the nature of intelligence in the military-political sphere.”

Gur, the defense Ministry denied this information.

Belarus declared persona non grata by the counselor of the Embassy of Ukraine to Belarus Igor Skvortsov. The Belarusian KGB claimed that the journalist Sharoika allegedly admitted that the diplomat has coordinated its activities. The Belarusian side calls Skvortsova “the employee of the Main intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of defense of Ukraine”, which allegedly acted under the guise of the post of adviser to the Ukrainian Embassy. The diplomat left the country.

Today, Ukraine’s foreign Ministry declared persona non grata one of employees of Embassy of Belarus in Ukraine, expelling him from the country.
