German auto giant BMW plans to build car Assembly plant of full cycle in Russia, told Vedomosti, a source familiar with the managers of the automaker.

The main consider the option to accommodate the production of the Kaliningrad oblast, which has a special economic zone (SEZ). SEZ residents receive government subsidies, comparable to the expenses for payment of customs duties for import of components.

Senior Vice President of BMW’s Hendrik von Kuenheim said that the company intends to increase the level of localization of production. According to him, investments BMW can reach several hundred million euros.

Since 1999, the BMW cars are produced by SKD method at the facilities of Kaliningrad Avtotor.

Avtotor produced in models 3, 5 and 7 series, SUVs X1, X3, X4, X5, X6. Production capacity – 40 thousand cars a year.
