The head of the International monetary Fund IMF Christine Lagarde has no plans to invest in bitcoin, believing it to be the price is too high, she said during an interview with CNBC.
Earlier at the event in London, Lagarde praised the development of cryptocurrencies, saying that they “can compete with existing currencies and the monetary system”.
Lagarde also approved the actions of the Chinese authorities to ban ICO. “The ban was imposed on the basis of the analysis which was dominated by, if not more, speculation and Ponzi scheme. This is a clear sign that they are not indifferent to this sphere”.
Despite the wide distribution of fraud schemes in the sphere of cryptocurrencies, according to the head of the IMF, people should not turn away from this market. “When I look at my country, where all transactions between citizens and the Ministry of Finance converted to digital form, I understand that now is undergoing tremendous changes, which should all pay attention.”
Earlier, Christine Lagarde said that the IMF can go to blockchain technology in the system of allocation of special drawing rights.
