Russia received another slap in the face to the UN. Commented on the decision of the third Committee on the adoption of the draft updated resolution of the UN General Assembly on the human rights situation in Crimea, the head of the Mejlis Refat Chubarov in Facebook.
“Ahead of the analysis of each of the 173 States that took part in the vote, however, we can already see that many countries avoid to Express its position when a particular state condemned the human rights violations and other crimes against the person”, – said Chubarov.
He believes that this behavior (some countries – ed.) is understandable, as States, avoiding to tell others about human rights violations and other crimes committed against persons, not exclude that in other situations they may become a target for criticism and condemnation.
“At the same time, the circle of defenders of Russia, including Belarus, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Syria shows that countries ruled by authoritarian or dictatorial regimes, has traditionally provided support for the Putin regime”, – said Chubarov.
On 14 November the third Committee of the UN General Assembly approved an updated resolution on human rights in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
Leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Cemil said in his Facebook that voted for the resolution, the representative of the 71 member countries of the UN General Assembly, abstained – 77, did not support the resolution with 25 countries.
Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions. For the implementation by Moscow of the so-called elections with the participation of the Crimea in 2016-m to year the Parliament of Ukraine recognized the Russian state Duma is illegitimate.
