The current situation in the Donbas suggests that the Russian Federation continues to flout its commitments under the Minsk agreements. The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine demands from Russia to immediately cease hostilities and adhere to the ceasefire. Foreign Ministry also calls on international partners to intensify political and diplomatic pressure on the Kremlin to stop the dangerous escalation in the Donbas and to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in the region. This is stated in the message on the Agency’s website.
“Such actions of the Kremlin can be described as a war crime, a gross violation of the Geneva conventions of 12 August 1949, unlawful, wanton and extensive destruction of property not justified by military necessity”, – underline the foreign Ministry.
On 30 January, the militants damaged the last power line to the plant. The city remained without water, electricity and heating. Later the President Petro Poroshenko interrupted his visit to Germany due to an emergency situation in the plant.
