Ukraine has agreed with OSCE to find a “formula for balance between security and media freedom”. In an interview with UKRINFORM said the first Deputy Minister of information policy Emine dzhaparova.

According to her, the OSCE feared that in protecting the security, Ukraine will censor the media.

“We agreed with Mr. Desir (Harlem Desir, the OSCE representative on freedom of the media – ed.) that, at least, will try in Ukraine to study the situation, carry out monitoring what the laws are today, how the legislation can improve the situation. In short, we will continue the search for balance between security and freedom of the media,” said Dzhaparov.

“Mr Desir agreed that we will deepen cooperation, particularly in the legislative search for answers to these questions,” she added.

Dzhaparova said that the decision was made at the initiative of the Ukrainian side.

According to her, recently, the Ministry of information policy wrote to the Desir letter of request to study the situation and legislation in Ukraine and try to find answers to new challenges.

We will remind, after the expulsion from Ukraine of the journalist of the Russian First channel Anna Kurbatova Desir urged Ukraine not to deport the journalists of member countries of the OSCE.
