The current UN Secretary-General antónio Guterres may help to resolve the issue of opening the UN office to monitor the implementation of the Minsk agreements. This was stated by the representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko in an interview with the UN news Centre.
After the start of Ukraine’s presidency of the security Council on 21 February will host a discussion at the Ministerial level. Will discuss the conflicts in Europe.
“And we’re going to put the question not in order to say about Donbass, because we have been and will be many more occasions in the course of this year, but in order to show that the European security system, you need to look at the complex and find, maybe those points where, in our opinion, the UN is not enough” – said Yelchenko.
Permanent representative of Ukraine recalled that at the last Secretary-General ban Ki-moon the idea was to open a special office, but did not “because of certain reasons.”
“But we believe that this question could help solve the current Secretary-General,” – said Yelchenko.
In may 2015, President Petro Poroshenko spoke with ban Ki-moon about the opening of a special UN office to support the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
