Ukraine should be ready to negotiate on membership in the European Union before will be officially recognized as an accession perspective. This was stated by the President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid in Brussels on the eve of the Eastern partnership summit, reports European truth.

To a journalist’s question about when the EU admits the prospect of Ukraine’s membership, she said that it is not necessary to wait for the formal recognition of the possible entry into the Alliance of the Eastern partners, as the work must begin now.

“When that moment comes, you have to be in a situation where you will be able on Monday morning to open the first chapters of the negotiations concerning the rule of law and human rights, and to conclude the negotiations on Friday evening,” she said.

Also, the Estonian President stressed that to act in this way need all three associated partners of the EU – Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia.

On 14 November, the head of the EU delegation in Ukraine Hugh Mingarelli said the EU in the next few years may not offer the countries participating in the Eastern partnership membership in the Alliance. However, he stressed that, despite this, the implementation of the Association Agreement is a topical issue for Ukraine.

On 19 October during a visit to Azerbaijan, Minister of foreign Affairs of Poland Witold Waszczykowski said Poland wants to resume the importance of the EU program Eastern partnership, which is aimed at rapprochement with former Soviet countries.

On 23 November Minister of foreign Affairs Ministry of foreign Affairs Pavlo Klimkin stated that Ukraine’s relations with the EU will go beyond the Eastern partnership.
