Former CIA Director, John Brennan, the US said that the President of the country-aggressor Vladimir Putin needed to “break the nose out of Ukraine.” He commented on the decision of former President Barack Obama not to arm Ukraine, PBS FrontLine interview, which was recorded in July and released in October 2017, according to Voice of America.

“The United States had “a little bit to let Putin bleed from the nose” and to respond to aggression against Ukraine military. I think it would have caused him to retreat, and, like most bullies, he knows it cannot stand against others,” said Brennan.

He called Putin “a very clever individual who really appreciates their enemies and opponents.”

“I think he expected (Putin – ed.) that in the end of the last term of the Obama administration, the reaction of Washington was to assume, and in my opinion, he saw that Obama does not want a military conflict and, therefore, uses other tools that are available in the US, for example, sanctions,” said Brennan.

The former Director of the CIA I am sure that Putin hoped that he would not be given a symmetrical military response.

“But I believe that Putin’s decision to go against the Ukraine, his decision to launch a military campaign in Syria was based on the belief that symmetrical military response will not follow. I thought, in certain cases, we had to make our response less predictable for Putin. It seemed to me that we could resort to actions that would not have led to the proxy war with Russia,” said Brennan.
