Involuntary hold in a psychiatric hospital and a psychiatric examination, Deputy Mejlis Ilmi Umerov is a gross violation of international human rights standards. This is stated in the Chairman’s statement of the EU delegation in Ukraine.

The EU called for the immediate release Umerov. “Due to serious concerns about the state of his health, emergency medical aid should be provided”, – emphasized in the representation.

The statement said that the rights of Crimean Tatars on the Peninsula are severely affected after annexation. The EU calls on Ukraine to return all the illegally convicted persons in the Russian Federation.

In may 2016 special services of the Russian Federation initiated a criminal case against Ilmi Umerov on the article “separatism”. According to the invaders, he called for the violation of the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation in the Ukrainian TV channel ATR”. Despite the condition Umerov, the occupants locked him in a psychiatric hospital.

On 10 August, the separatists decided to send zamglavy Majlis to forced psychiatric examination.
