The Ministry of foreign Affairs demands from the aggressor state of Russia to let the Consul to citizen of Ukraine Viktor Shura, was sentenced to prison on trumped-up charges of espionage. This is stated in the statement published on the foreign Ministry website.

“The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its strong protest against the inhuman treatment by the Russian authorities in relation to a wrongfully convicted in Russia of the citizen of Ukraine Victor Shura and the refusal of the Russian side to provide access of Ukrainian Consul to him”, – stated in the message.

As noted in the foreign Ministry, the Russian jailers, requiring the prisoner to refuse in writing the legal right to see a diplomat, “resorted to violence over it and torture”. “Shure was placed in a solitary confinement cell where he was kept in the cold without food and water, which led to the deterioration of his health”, – is told in the message.

The Ministry once again demanded of the aggressor state to stop illegal actions against the Ukrainians illegally held in Russia politically motivated cases and to ensure their right to a meeting with the Consul.

In October 2015, the Russian court in Bryansk sentenced Victor Shura – at that time a citizen of the Russian Federation to 12 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for allegedly spying for Ukraine. The prosecution has charged him with gathering secret information “about the sensitive subject of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation on the State border service of Ukraine”.

In September 2016 in the media appeared information that the Schur received Ukrainian citizenship by territorial origin as born in the territory of Ukraine.
