Makeev said that to improve Russian-Ukrainian relations Russia should stop aggression and illegal occupation. “That is, it is not personalities, in the sense,” – said the representative of the foreign Ministry, commenting on the appointment of Mikhail Babich, Russia’s Ambassador to Ukraine

Makeev noted that in the Russian Embassy in Ukraine is Ambassador will work chargé d’affaires, as well as in Ukraine’s Embassy in Russia. “Appointed chargé d’affaires is the senior diplomat, who will be tasked to support the rare contacts that currently exist in Ukrainian-Russian relations,” he said.

On 28 July, Mikhail Zurabov was dismissed from the post of the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

On July 29, the press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Russia has asked Ukraine’s prior consent (agrément) on the appointment of Mikhail Babich, the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

August 3, Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena zerkal stated that Ukraine has not agreed on the candidacy of the new Ambassador of Russia in Kiev Mikhail Babich, not satisfied therefore, the request for agrément, and the issue is “removed” from the agenda.

August 5, the assistant head of the Russian Federation Yuri Ushakov said that Russia is in favour of Ukraine in its diplomatic mission was led by the Ambassador, and looked forward to the adoption of the nominations of Michael Babich.
