A former German SS unterscharführer 96-year-old Oskar Groening, charged with complicity in the murder of at least 300 thousand people, has filed a petition for clemency to the Prosecutor’s office of lüneburg (Germany). On it informs edition Spiegel.

“We have written a petition for clemency pending,” – said the press Secretary of the Prosecutor of the lüneburg Heath, where you have to make a decision on the application.

The report said that the move is the latest way for him to avoid the entry into force of the decision on imprisonment, which, by direction of the court, may be interrupted at any time, if his health condition to deteriorate.

In the summer of 2015 land court in lüneburg sentenced to four years in prison the former “accountant”, which from 1942 to 1944 he worked in the concentration camp Auschwitz in the Polish town of Oswiecim.

In September last year, the Federal court of Germany confirmed the previous decision of the court, and in December 2017, the Federal constitutional court decided that the condition Groening allows him to serve his sentence in prison.

On September 12 the German court closed the case against 96-year-old former medical orderly at Auschwitz who suffers from dementia.
