Germany against complete cessation of negotiations on the future membership of Turkey in the European Union. This was stated by foreign Minister of Germany, Sigmar Gabriel, before the informal meeting of EU foreign Ministers in Malta, reports UKRINFORM.

“We believe the termination of negotiations completely the wrong reaction,” said the Minister.

Gabriel said that Europe is “not interested in pushing Turkey towards Russia.”

The official representative of the German foreign Ministry Martin Schaefer at a press briefing in Berlin said that in Valletta “together with our European partners and together with Turkey to consider what new formats of negotiations can be found”.

As reported, after the adoption by referendum of the amendments to the Turkish Constitution, the heads of the leading German political parties have demanded that negotiations on Turkey’s accession to the EU.
