The German frigate “Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” saved in the waters of the Mediterranean sea 158 refugees. About this reports Deutsche Welle.

Among the rescued 97 men, 6 women and 55 minors. They traveled on a crowded inflatable boat illegal carriers, which crashed at a distance of about 100 kilometers North of the coast of Libya.

The rescued refugees were sent to the Italian port of August, where they should arrive on Wednesday, August 30.

With the beginning of the year the Mediterranean sea to Italy, Greece and Spain net profit of 121 thousand refugees. Over the same period in 2016, this figure was 272 thousand people.

At the same time, a growing number of those who died at sea. As of the end of August 2016 at sea have killed 3228 refugees over the same period of 2017 – 2410 refugees.

Since July of this year, according to the organization for the protection of EU borders Frontex, the flow of refugees to the European coast has decreased. Most likely due to the active involvement of the coast guard of Libya to combat illegal carriers.
