French President Francois Hollande is concerned about the heightened in recent weeks the escalation of the conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. This reports the press service of the Elysee Palace after a telephone conversation Hollande with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the head of the aggressor country of Russia Vladimir Putin.

“Hollande expressed his concern over escalation of tensions in recent weeks and the growing number of violations of the ceasefire monitored by the OSCE mission in the East of Ukraine”, – is told in the message.

The French President stressed that the risk of escalation will endanger the whole process, so there is no alternative to a peaceful settlement. He expressed support for the Normandy format and expressed hope for a new meeting in this format.

In addition, Hollande, Putin recalled the consistent position of France concerning non-recognition of the annexation of the Crimea.

Merkel, Hollande and Putin discussed implementation of the Minsk agreements, and also agreed to a joint meeting at the summit of G20 leaders in Hangzhou (China) on 4-5 September.

Hollande and Merkel will meet with Putin in China on 4-5 September 24.08.2016
