Sanctions against Russia can not be removed until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. This was stated in a telephone conversation with U.S. President Donald trump, the President of France Francois Hollande, press service of the Elysee Palace.
“Regarding Russia, the President of the Republic confirmed its intention to continue and to intensify dialogue on a number of issues. He (Francois Hollande, ed) stressed that the sanctions imposed in connection with the situation in Ukraine should not be lifted as long as the situation in the East will not be resolved until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements”, – said in a communique of the conversation.
Hollande also said that he will continue to do everything possible to strengthen the European Union in all fields, including defence, in the interests of transatlantic cooperation. “He noted the indispensable nature of NATO”, – stated in the message.
The French President also reminded Trump that the UN remains an essential and indispensable tool of solving conflicts, and the Paris climate agreement is important for the entire planet in the fight against global warming.
In relation to the conflict in Syria, Hollande said that a solution must be found within the framework of the UN security Council. “No other solution will not be sustainable and credible,” – said in a communique. Hollande also stressed the importance of joint struggle of the USA and France against terrorism and the importance of implementing a nuclear agreement reached with Iran.
Earlier the President of France called on Europe to firmly respond to trump’s words about Brexit as a model for the EU and accused his administration in the promotion of extremism.
