Today, August 23, Ukraine celebrates national flag Day. In honor of the holiday for all institutions and agencies raised the blue-yellow flag, in many cities held marches and flash mobs.
This morning, President Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of raising the flag of Ukraine on St. Sophia square in Kiev. Together with the President, the flag was raised by Mary Fisher – daughter of the Hero of Ukraine, who died at Gorlovka in the Donbass.
In Odessa on the Potemkin stairs, the citizens and local activists unfurled a 25-meter flag of Ukraine. The action was organized by participants Vyshivankovy festival.
In Poltava in honor of the celebration of flag Day took place the flashmob: citizens passed each other, hand in hand a huge flag of Ukraine.
In Uzhgorod flag Day celebrated with a solemn procession through the streets of the city were local residents and activists with a 100-meter flag of Ukraine. The painting was made in Uzhhorod training and production enterprise №2 of Ukrainian society of the deaf.
Symbolic was the celebration of flag Day in the village of Chermalyk in Donetsk region, which before came under fire from militants. “All night DNR militants fired on the village. But despite the fear, the locals came this morning to the village Council. Together with children sang national anthem and raised our blue-yellow flag,” – said the head of the Donetsk police Vyacheslav Abroskin.
The holiday officially established by the decree of the second President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma on the Day of State flag of Ukraine from August 23, 2004.
