A number of Ukrainian human rights organizations demand to stop persecution of lawyers and human rights defenders from the Russian invaders in the annexed Crimea. This is stated in the statement published on the website of the Ukrainian Helsinki Union on human rights.
“In the last two days in Crimea, started a real attack on lawyers who fulfill their professional duties and protect the rights of citizens of Ukraine in the occupied Crimea”, – said in a statement.
As human rights activists, 25 Jan invaders detained in Simferopol lawyer, Deputy head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov Nicholas Polozova. And today, 26 January, near the town of Bakhchisarai, was abducted lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, which the occupiers are charged with distribution of extremist materials. Also in the apartment and the office Kubedinova was conducted unlawful searches.

“In our opinion, such actions of the Russian special services in Ukraine has all the hallmarks of political persecution directly linked to human rights advocacy and is aimed at preventing of its professional activity, deprivation of protection of the rights of social activists and intimidation of other human rights activists,” – said in a statement.
It is noted that human rights organizations are outraged by the unlawful actions of the occupation authorities of Crimea and call for the immediate and unconditional release of lawyer Kubedinova.
“Human rights defenders also reminded about the international standards on guarantees of advocacy and demand to ensure compliance with such safeguards in respect of all the lawyers who defend victims of human rights violations and politically persecuted in the Crimean Peninsula,” – said in a statement.
In this regard, human rights organizations asked the government of Ukraine, foremost the Ministry of foreign Affairs, to demand from occupiers immediate release Kubedinova, termination of prosecution and persecution and violation of rights of other Ukrainians for political reasons.
The initiators of the statement asking international human rights organizations to publicly declare the inadmissibility of persecution of lawyers and human rights defenders, and to seek responses to the relevant international institutions and authorized persons.

Human rights activists also appeal to the Council of Europe, OSCE and UN to condemn the persecution of Russian occupiers lawyers and human rights defenders, demand that the aggressor state to release Kubedinova and stop the harassment of lawyers, and to apply personal sanctions to the persons involved in this persecution.
26 January 2017 in Bakhchisarai Russian occupants kidnapped two Crimean Tatars – Seyran Salieva and Emil Kubedinova.
In the morning in the house Salieva was searched, he was taken to the office so called the police.
Lawyer Emil Kubedinova kidnapped in the moment when he and his colleague received the information about the search, went to Salawu. The human rights activist was taken to occupied Simferopol, where he presented the alleged suspicion of extremism. The apartment and the lawyer’s office also was raided.
Later occupants Kubedinova sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest.
