The European Union in the current year allocated from the budget for humanitarian assistance record amount of 1.1 billion euros. This writes Deutsche Welle.

Of them 445 million allocated for assistance to victims of war in Syria.

In 2015, the amount of humanitarian aid amounted to 920 million euros.

Over the period since 1997, more than 1,000 people have paid with their lives for devotion to humanitarian values. During this time approximately 4,000 humanitarian workers were killed in attacks around the world.

On 18 August the European Union called for an immediate cease-fire in Aleppo, Syria, to allow all residents of the city of humanitarian assistance.
