Local authorities are currently not announce the amount of the fine for the homeless, but reported that they will have to pay him on the spot. The amount of the fine will increase if not paid immediately, or in the case of repeated violations.

It is also said that, according to one of the officials with the regulatory structure of the city, the homeless will be fined, if they refuse to leave the place on the street after repeated requests.

The report says that Christoph Schmitt, member of the party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, argues that there is enough homeless shelters and service centers throughout the city. At the same time, his colleague from “Green” Beatrix Baumann noted that the local homeless people rarely use these services.

The number of homeless people in Germany has risen sharply in recent years, and according to the head of one of the centers for the homeless, approximately 70 per cent of rough sleepers on the streets of Berlin suffer from a mental illness.
