The Ministry of culture of Poland stated that the destruction of the monument to soldiers of the UPA in the Polish village of Krusovice near Przemysl is legitimate. The Department stated that the monument was installed in violation of applicable Polish law, according to Polish Radio.
“Dismantle of illegally established in 1994, the monument to the UPA in the state cemetery in Gruzovikah near Przemysl lawful”, – reported in the Polish Ministry of culture.
The Ministry added that “against the monument in the form advocated by the Council of protection of memory of struggle and martyrdom, with which the establishment of the monument was not consistent”. The Ministry of culture of Poland claims that the Ukrainian State interdepartmental Commission on Affairs of perpetuating of memory of victims of war and political repression under the Cabinet of Ministers were sent letters about the measures of regulation of the legal status of the said monument, but to no avail.
It is specified that the monument was “one of many such illegally installed on the territory of Poland monuments glorifying UPA members that have symbolic value and are not associated with a burial site”.
April 26, 2017, the representatives of the Polish nationalist organizations was dismantled in the cemetery of the village near Przemysl Rusovici a funerary monument to soldiers of the UPA.
The foreign Ministry called scandalous campaign “blatant provocation in the eve of celebration of 70th anniversary of the criminal action Vistula”.
