The influential human rights organization the American Union of civil liberties (ACLU) just last weekend received about $24 million endowment, which is about six times more than the defenders get in a typical year. This was reported by the official representative of the ACLU, according to DW.

According to the representative, donations increased sharply after U.S. President Donald trump has signed his immigration Executive orders temporarily prohibiting entry into the United States of Syrian refugees and to citizens of seven countries with a predominantly Muslim population.

The American Union of civil liberties was created almost 100 years ago. Today it consists of about 750 thousand people. The organization opposes the death penalty and police violence.
