The Istanbul court sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison Cakiroglu Abdullah, who in a public bus beat the unknown woman in “inappropriate clothing”. It is reported Hurriyet.
The incident occurred on 12 September 2016 in Istanbul. Cakiroglu beat nurse Isogel Terzi, as he later explained, for “inappropriate” look. Terzi filed a complaint against Cakiroglu, and he was arrested by the police.
First, the court decided to release him, but after public outcry about his release, he was again arrested and went on trial for first hearing, which took place on 26 October 2016 at the Istanbul court. The court then adjourned the trial.
In his final speech Cakiroglu said: “I’m not going to say it, because it’s shameful, but her underwear could be seen while she was sitting. I would like to know, which our government holds the line. This is Turkey, and it is an Islamic country. I was provoked. Besides, I didn’t take the meds (the day of the attack) that would have an impact,” he said.
Earlier residents of the area ruts in Ankara filed a complaint with the Manager of a residential home for the English teacher that wears shorts at home, demanding her to close the curtains.
