The electricity tariffs in Ukraine are the highest in Europe. This was stated by the head of the National Commission carrying out regulation in the sphere of energy and communal services Dmitry Vovk, reports UNIAN.
“For a long time, for 25 years was very warm and fatherly words about consumer protection. And now electricity tariffs in Ukraine, the largest in Europe,” – said Vovk.
He noted that the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the electricity market will allow to move from a planned economy to a free market in energy, with the result that consumers will be able to obtain a competitive price for quality services.
“We are confident that this would set a fair price on stable quality services,” – said Vovk.
At the same time, a former member of the national Commission Andriy Gerus believes an incorrect comparison of the rates in Ukraine and Europe. About this he wrote in Facebook.
“To be honest, (rates – ed.) not the highest. For the population low for business is lower there and higher. But to compare the head-on tariffs for electricity with Europe, in which a completely different structure of generation, the other (large) taxes and excise duties, and other costs regulated companies, and with which we are not even United in one market, very ill,” wrote Gerus.
As reported, on April 13, 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on electricity market, which foresees the introduction of competitive relations on the energy market , including retail. The end user will be able to choose their electricity supplier.
The adoption of the law is a prerequisite for the allocation of Ukraine of the third tranche of macro-financial assistance from EU in the amount of 600 million euros. This bill meets the requirements of the Third energy package, and also takes into account norms of the current law on the functioning of the electricity market of Ukraine, which defines the organization of the market in General and includes the implementation of corporatization of the company-operator of the unified power system of Ukrenergo.
With timely implementation of the provisions of the law, it is assumed that industrial consumers can choose their electricity supplier in 2019 and a population in 2020
