In the last few days has increased the number of attempts to smuggle into Ukraine food and goods infected with a dangerous quarantine organism – Mediterranean fruit fly. This reports the press center of the State service of Ukraine on food safety and consumer protection.

So, on January 17, 2017 at the port of Ilyichevsk (ferry) was detected loads of tangerines, oranges and lemons weight 88,25 t, 136,45 48,4 t and t, respectively. They came to Ukraine from Turkey.

January 20, in the Odessa commercial sea time Mediterranean fruit fly was discovered in the cargo of bananas weighing 46,4 t, originating from Ecuador and 22.7 t origin from Costa Rica.

The same pest on January 21 was discovered in the port of Ilyichevsk in the cargo of tangerines and grapefruits originating from Turkey, with a weight of 72.6 tons and 23.7 tonnes, respectively.

On January 24 in Kiev region when conducting phytosanitary control at the customs checkpoint Eastern terminal of the Mediterranean fruit fly was discovered in the cargo of oranges originating from Turkey, weighing 9.5 tons.

To prevent such cases in the exporting countries – Ecuador, Costa Rica and Turkey sent reports of non-compliance of goods with the phytosanitary requirements of Ukraine.

We will remind, earlier it was already foiled an attempt to smuggle goods infected with Mediterranean fruit fly on the territory of Ukraine.
