President Petro Poroshenko on Friday, December 29 signed decrees on the elimination and creation of local courts within the judicial reform. About it reports a press-service of the head of state.
Poroshenko called this the “second stage of judicial reforms,” and recalled that the first phase ended with the formation of a new Supreme court.
“Today is the second phase, which has two very clear position: we need to bring the courts and justice to the people. We could not be more districts with no courts and courts without judges,” he said.
Present at the signing of decrees, the Deputy head of the presidential Administration Oleksiy Filatov said that the documents include the reorganization of the justice system, in particular the elimination, creation and reorganization of certain courts. He stressed that this concerns both of local courts and courts of appeal.
Filatov said that there will be a district economic courts instead of the courts in the districts will also have district courts. “It will be a unified approach to all courts of first instance”, – said Deputy head of the AP.

According to Filatov, with the aim of organizational and financial optimization also eliminated and created certain courts in major cities to provide “better access to justice and more efficient litigation”.
Poroshenko also said that now is the recruitment of judges of people who pass the evaluation system, fill out the required Declaration, undergo anti-corruption test. In this regard, the President urged lawyers and legal scholars to participate in “totally transparent”contest.
In addition, the President stressed that he would initiate a bill to ensure the continuity of proceedings in the event of transfer of judges to the new court.
