European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, said about the need to create a full-fledged European defence Union by 2025. He said this on Wednesday in Strasbourg at the European Parliament during the annual speech, according to UNIAN news Agency.
“I want us to devote further efforts to the issue of defense. Already have a new European defense Fund, as well as permanent structured cooperation in the defence field. By 2025, we need a European defense Alliance. We need it. And NATO wants it,” – said Juncker.
European Commission President also called for the early adoption of solutions in the field of foreign policy for the EU that would help to make the Union a strong player in the world.
“In order to have more weight in the world, we should be able faster to make foreign policy decisions. That’s why I want member States discussed how foreign policy decisions can be transferred from unanimous voting to qualified majority. This is already provided by the Treaty if all member States agree to do it,” explained Juncker.
