European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker is in favour of the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen area. He said this during his annual speech to the European Parliament, reports European truth.

“If we want to strengthen our external borders, now is the time to make Romania and Bulgaria members of the Schengen zone,” – said Juncker, to the applause of MEPs.

He also added that Croatia is also fully deserving of membership in the Schengen area once they have fulfilled all the necessary requirements.

Romania and Bulgaria for several years apply for membership in the Schengen area, but their membership does not agree with some EU countries, claiming insufficient fight against corruption.

Croatia since 2011 he is a candidate country, but to join the agreement must be unanimous decision of all member countries.
