Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the country-aggressor Russia miscalculated with provocations in occupied Crimea, as expected the reaction of the other EU countries. He said this on air of the 5th channel.
“What happened near admingranitsy the Crimea may have other causes. 18 September – election situation in Crimea is a difficult and United Russia party not just go to the election preparations. This may be the issue of internal mobilization and for the Crimea and Russia”, – said Klimkin.
According to Klimkin, the Russian Federation was hopeful that the response of the international community “not be the same as it always is,” given the holding of the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro and the fact that many politicians are now in the holiday season.

The logic by which you want to destabilize the internal situation in Ukraine, including through Normandy format”, – said Klimkin.

10 August, the FSB and the Russian President accused Ukraine of preparing attacks in the Crimea. Ukraine denies the charges. According to the Ukrainian intelligence, in the Crimea there was a firefight between the FSB and the Russian military. This situation is the Russian government trying to pass off as sabotage of Ukraine. The EU and NATO said that Moscow failed to provide evidence against Ukraine. President Poroshenko has recommended that Vladimir Putin to stop “dream” and begin to abide by international agreements.

August 16, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko in a telephone conversation with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and President of France Francois Hollande said that the provocations of the Russian Federation in Crimea “intended to discredit Ukraine in the eyes of international partners.”
Russia has occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared on 20 February 2014 beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly has condemned Russia’s actions and called the annexation and occupation of Crimea illegal. Against Russia were imposed economic sanctions.
