The operator of all operating nuclear power plants of Ukraine NNEGC Energoatom and the Korea electric power company Korea Hydro&Nuclear Power (KHNP) on 31 August signed a Memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in the nuclear power industry, where one of the priorities will be the completion of the third and fourth units of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant, the press service of the company.
“The main areas of cooperation will be the completion of power units №3 and №4 of Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant and implementation of the project Energy bridge Ukraine – EU” – said in the message.
Energoatom said that the Memorandum of understanding was signed by the President of the Ukrainian company Yuri Nedashkovsky and CEO of KHNP Dr. Seok Cho.
It is reported that the parties also agreed to form a steering Committee, whose membership will include two co-chairs (one representative from each party) and members of the Committee.
The Committee will coordinate all issues of cooperation in the framework of the signed Memorandum. They will also develop the appropriate commercial agreements (or series of transactions).
According to the Director of KHNP, the project of completion of units No. 3 and No. 4 at the Khmelnytskiy NPP is successfully completed, the parties will work together for a common goal.
The Memorandum stated that Ukraine and the Republic of Korea – the countries-members of the International atomic energy Agency (IAEA) and the parties to the Treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons, which in good faith comply with its obligations under the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
State enterprise Energoatom is the operator of the four operating nuclear power plants of Ukraine (Zaporizhzhya, Rivne, South-Ukraine and Khmelnytskyi NPPs).
Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. – largest energy company, which produces about 32% of the total electricity production in South Korea. KHNP owns and operates 24 power plant with total installed capacity MW 21716. Also, KHNP has 6 nuclear power units under construction and plans to build additional 4 units in Korea.
