The proposal of the President of the aggressor Vladimir Putin on “the introduction of peacekeepers” to Donbass does not suit Ukraine. This was stated today in the river, the representative of Ukraine in the tripartite contact group in Minsk, Leonid Kuchma.
“As Russia is proposing, we absolutely do not like. This is, pardon the expression, Russia wants us to drive in such a remote corner, this issue, which then will not know how to get out. And this, by the way, he (Putin – ed.) before the world shows that You guys like to try to do something, I will do what I deem necessary and he makes.”
According to him, from the first day of a hybrid war in the Donbas Russia’s position has not changed – to make in the post-Soviet territory in the Ukraine, another frozen conflict.
“What is peacekeeping troops to protect the Special mission of the OSCE? This is a mockery. Peacekeepers must protect peacekeepers? Peacekeeping troops are introduced in order to protect the population and help to reduce the conflict of the opposing sides, but not in the same form as proposed,” – said Kuchma.
He added that peacekeepers should be on the Ukrainian-Russian border with the total length of 400 km.
5 September 2017, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that Russia has sent the Organization a draft resolution on the deployment of peacekeepers on the contact line in the Donbass. Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the presence of UN peacekeepers in the Donbass “would benefit the resolution of the conflict”, but then said that in his understanding we are talking about “people who ensure the safety of the OSCE mission,” and which “must be on the boundary line and no other areas.”
Ukraine has opposed the participation of the Russian Federation in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass in the case that the decision to conduct such an operation were to be adopted.
September 5, Ukraine’s representative to the Humanities subgroup of the Minsk process Irina Gerashchenko said that Putin distorts the idea of peacekeepers in the Donbass.
On 7 September, President Petro Poroshenko said that no negotiation with militants temporarily occupied part of the Donbass parameters of a possible UN peacekeeping mission will not, and the country-aggressor Russia cannot take part in it.
