Lithuania fears that the troops transported to Belarus in connection with the teachings of the West-2017, will not return to Russia after the maneuvers, and calls upon Russia to reverse these teachings. This was stated by Minister of foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, reports Delfi.

In Vilnius recalled that the annexation of Crimea was preceded by military exercises.

“We are concerned that Moscow moved to Belarus and to the borders of the Baltic States 4 000 systems capable of carrying nuclear weapons, and at least 30,000 soldiers. This is a dangerous saber rattling should stop,” said Linkevičius.

He called the Russian implausible evidence that the exercise will be attended by only 12 thousand soldiers.

“We must be vigilant and prepared,” – said the Lithuanian Minister.

Linkevičius also noted that, in contrast to the exercises Zapad-2013, Russia, in the framework of the present teachings, the first time moving troops to Belarus.

“We fear that the Russian military presence in Belarus will become permanent”, he said.

8 September the Ministry of defense of Germany urged Russia to extend the mandate of international observers from NATO and interested countries on the Russian-Belarusian military exercise Zapad-2017.
