The return of Russia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in the current situation would be contrary to international law. About this in his Twitter wrote foreign Ministry spokesman Marian Betz.
“The return of the Russian Federation in PACE without addressing the international law violations, restoration of territorial integrity of Ukraine, withdrawal of Russian troops is contrary to international law,” wrote Betz.
She noted that Russia has not fulfilled any resolution in the framework of the Council of Europe, the UN or the OSCE.
“In the matter of implementation of international law, values cannot be compromised,” wrote the press Secretary of the foreign Ministry.
Earlier it was reported that the Secretary General of the Council of Europe thorbjørn Jagland called for a return of Russia to the PACE and the lifting of sanctions, imposed on Russia for aggression against Ukraine.
Russia was deprived of voting rights in PACE in April 2014 after the occupation of Crimea and the outbreak of hostilities in the Donbass.
