In 2016 the Department of police and border guard of Estonia has issued an emergency permit to work 1807 the citizens of third countries, more than half of them – the Ukrainians, the yevropeiska Pravda reported.

Citizens of Ukraine amounted to 57% of the total number of labour migrants who received residence permit (1030 people). It is worth noting that in previous years the influx of Ukrainians accounted for the majority of migrants (60% in 2015, 57% in 2014).

In second place in the top of the labour migrants are Russians: in 2016 in Estonia came 302 people, which accounted for 14% of the total. In recent years, the influx of Russians has decreased gradually (in 2015, they accounted for 15%, in 2014 – 17%).

In addition, in 2016 for work visa to work for up to six months a year in Estonia from third countries came 1500. Of them citizens of Ukraine had 1,226 employees, which accounted for 82% of the total registered. In 2015, there were half (678 people). From Russia on temporary work in 2016 came 127 (8% of the total).

“If to speak about citizens of Ukraine who came to Estonia to work, most of them workers involved in the installation of equipment, skilled workers employed in enterprises linked to the construction sector and ship repair, as well as seasonal workers who were employed in the agricultural sector”, – said the head of the office of migration Department of the border guard of Estonia Mage Lapp.

“Among Ukrainian citizens who received a residence permit, increased the number of people who came to Estonia to work in the status of a leading specialist,” she added.
