Russia agreed to the holding of the Council Russia – the NATO after the Alliance’s summit in Warsaw. This was after a meeting with foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault, reports Reuters.

“Russia gave its consent, but would like to see the meeting took place after the Warsaw summit, to be able to study the decisions that will be taken there,” said Eero.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the meetings of the Alliance with Russia will not happen before the summit in Warsaw, which should be on 8-9 July.

19 Aug 2008 the work of the Council Russia-NATO was interrupted after the conflict in Georgia, but already in 2009 the Alliance has resumed its cooperation with the Russian Federation. 1 APR 2014 the head of the NATO foreign Ministers once again stopped military cooperation with Russia over military intervention in Ukraine.

20 April 2016 for the first time since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine was held a meeting of the Council Russia-NATO. However, the meeting had no serious results.

The NATO summit in Warsaw, scheduled for June 8-9, 2016. The event will take place at the Warsaw National stadium.
