NATO took note of the decision of the Verkhovna Rada, which membership in the Alliance defined the objective of Ukraine’s foreign policy, stressing that the main priority for Kiev are now reform. About it reports UNIAN with reference to a source in the headquarters of the Alliance.
“We have taken note of the decision of the Verkhovna Rada. To date, Ukraine has not applied for NATO membership. Kiev focuses on the reform and modernization of the institutions of defence and security and NATO supports these efforts. It is a priority,” said the Alliance.
NATO recalled that at the Warsaw summit in 2016, the heads of States and governments stated their firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders and the right of Ukraine to decide its own future and foreign policy course free from outside interference, as laid down in the Helsinki Final act. “This approval remains in force”, – noted in headquarters.
The Alliance also said that NATO’s cooperation with Ukraine is “an important part of NATO’s contribution to the design security in the Euro-Atlantic region and beyond”.
8 June 2017, the deputies returned to the membership in NATO to the national priorities of Ukraine.
