Bitcoin does not fall under the definition of currency or monetary surrogate, and mining is not a violation of the law. This was told by acting Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Yakov Smoliy, writes UNIAN.

“We as the national Bank, with terms such as currency, currency values, monetary substitute, the electronic money do not find in this list the categories that can be compared to bitcoin. And we believe that it is not a currency”, – said resin.

“We are unable today to identify what it is,” – said the head of NBU said the regulator will soon define the official status of bitcoin.

Yesterday the Deputy of Alexey mushak announced that the legal status of bitcoin in Ukraine will be determined before the end of September. “It will be the common position of the National Bank, Ministry of Finance, the securities Commission and other regulators on this issue”, – he said.
