The Organization for security and cooperation in Europe (OSCE – ed.) criticized the United States and Russia over actions requiring the recognition of the media “foreign agents”. About this reports Deutsche Welle.

Statement by the office of the OSCE representative on freedom of the media yesterday, November 16.

“Put on the media stigma of “foreign agents” is a dangerous practice because it limits the freedom of journalism. This is unacceptable,” – said the head of the OSCE representation on freedom of the media Harlem Desir.

Desir appealed to the authorities of the USA and Russia with the request to justify the requirement for media to register as “registered as foreign agents”.

He recalled that the OSCE members have committed themselves to promote free flow of information, signing, among others, the Helsinki accords.

Desir urged Washington and Moscow to revise the requirements for media registration as “registered as foreign agents” and to take no further steps in this direction.

November 15, 2017 illegitimate state Duma adopted amendments, according to which foreign media in Russia can be accepted as a registered as foreign agents if their funding from abroad. Now the bill needs to consider the Federation Council.
