Since 2000, the Mediterranean sea has killed more than 33 thousand migrants trying to reach the shores of Europe, making the border “by far the most deadly border in the world”. This is stated in the report of the International organization for migration, UN.

“Based on the analysis of the estimates of the IOM project “Missing migrants”, the report stated that at least 33 761 migrants died or went missing in the Mediterranean sea between 2000 and 2017 (as at 30 June),” – said in the report.


The report also presented statistics, which shows that in this year is about 161 million migrants and refugees arrived in Europe via the sea, about 75% had reached Italy and the rest arrived in Greece, Cyprus and Spain. And almost 3 thousand people were killed or went missing.

17 Nov at least 547 illegal migrants without documents were detained in the provinces of Edirne, Izmir, Sivas, Hatay and van while trying to reach Europe, or to enter into Turkey through illegal routes.
