President Petro Poroshenko agreed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande to hold a meeting in Normandy format in Berlin on October 19. Later, the German government confirmed the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. About it reports a press-service of the head of state.

Poroshenko, during his official visit to Norway, held a telephone conversation with the participation of françois Hollande and Angela Merkel.

“The two sides discussed the security situation in the Donbass. The President noted the importance of a common position of Ukraine and countries of the European Union on the eve of a European Council meeting to be held on October 20-21, 2016 in Brussels, where will be discussed the strategy of relations with Russia”, – noted in press service.

They agreed to hold on October 19 in Berlin the meeting of heads of States in Normandy format in order to force Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements in terms of security.

For the first time since the beginning of the war of Russia against Ukraine the Chancellor of Germany will take in Berlin, the Russian leader. Putin’s participation in the Normandy format was confirmed by the representative of the German government Steffen Seibert, reports Die Welt.

On 12 October during a telephone conversation Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande and Russian President Vladimir Putin failed to approve the date for a new meeting in Normandy format. 16 October, Putin announced a meeting of the Normandy four.
