The Minister of internal Affairs of the Federal state of North Rhine – Westphalia Herbert Reul called the incident a mistake, which should not happen, and announced the re-examination of standards for the processing of large data sets in the local police. At the same time, if the police found photos amry with weapons, it still would not be sufficient ground for his detention, said Raul.

In July, the investigator for particularly important cases of Bruno Jost found that Anise Amri could have arrested before the attack for drug trafficking, if one of the commissioners of the Berlin police promptly made a report and notified the Prosecutor about suspicions against native Tunisia.

In March the interior Minister of Germany Thomas de Maiziere said that law enforcement agencies could request protective custody for Amri at the end of October 2016, after Tunisia confirmed the identity of the Islamist.
