President Petro Poroshenko called for the adoption of the law on liability for denial of Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. He said this during the events in connection with Day of memory of famine victims.

“To our descendants knew it was not just an artificial famine, but a carefully planned famine. Moreover, the genocide of all signs, which are defined in the UN Convention of December 19, 1948”, – said Poroshenko

According to him, the law on liability for denial of the Holodomor need to ensure that the next generation of Ukrainians recognize this event as genocide.

“And to all the continents have realized that not to recognize the Holodomor is just as immoral as to deny the Holocaust. And I think it’s time for us to adopt a law on responsibility for denial of these two unprecedented and horrific tragedies. For what? To those who will live after us, kept the law of Ukraine on recognition of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people”, – said Poroshenko.

Today the House of representatives of Michigan (USA) adopted a resolution which identified 25 November, the Day of memory of victims of the Holodomor. It is important that the text of the resolution, the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 is explained using the term genocide.
