President Petro Poroshenko for the first time publicly commented on his decision about the loss of Mikhail Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship, saying that in that situation acted in accordance with the law. The head of state said on Friday, September 1, at a briefing in Kharkov, reports UKRINFORM.

According to Poroshenko, when the State migration service has provided the Commission on issues of citizenship documents showing that when obtaining citizenship, Saakashvili said false or fraudulent information, it “had to act in accordance with the law and the Constitution.”

“Any other steps, would be criminal activity. I signed the decree (on the loss of citizenship – ed.) as well as for other citizens,” – said the President.

Poroshenko added that the issue of the possible return of the former head of the Odessa regional state administration in Ukraine “must deal with the interior Ministry, immigration and border service”.

“Saakashvili will be treated the same as any other person who submitted false data”, – stressed the head of state.

July 26, 2017, Poroshenko has signed the decree about the loss of Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship. It was reported that the ex-President of Georgia was deprived of citizenship due to the fact that when you fill in the paperwork to receive it in 2015, he does not have information about the criminal cases opened against him, the current Georgian authorities.

16 August, Saakashvili said that he intends to return to Ukraine through Polish border 10 Sep 2017.
