President Petro Poroshenko with his wife Maryna Poroshenko honored the memory of the defenders of Ukrainian statehood killed in the battle near Kruty. The presidential couple also laid flowers to the memorial cross at Askold’s grave in Kiev, where were buried the brave students. This is stated in the message on the website of the President

The participants honored the memory of victims minute of silence.

The events were also attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy, the members of the Cabinet, the mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko.

In an address to the Ukrainian people on the Day of Kruty Heroes Petro Poroshenko said that the heroic battle of Kruty forever inscribed in the tablets of the national history primarily as an example of freedom and invincibility of the Ukrainian people.

“Now, as then, Russia went to war and deny its aggression, trying to disseminate to the world the myth of internal conflict in our country. It has become a tradition on the Day of Kruty Heroes to commemorate modern heroes who gave their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state already in the current Ukrainian-Russian war. Eternal memory”, – said the President.


Poroshenko believes that the feat of the heroes of Kruty is a lesson for contemporaries and for the current generation. He declared it in Facebook.

“Yes, they were very young, the characters are Cool… Their feat was a great lesson and contemporaries: it is possible for Ukrainian patriots Hrushevsky, Vynnychenko events in Kruty for the first time revealed the horrible truth about communism and socialism,” he wrote.


Poroshenko stressed that this is a lesson for us, today, and a rebuke to the Democrats – separated and unyielding.

“From there, from Cool, our heroic children look in depth of our conscience … not my words. These are the words of Vyacheslav Chornovil, written 19 years ago. But they are now – on the topic of the day,” wrote Poroshenko.
