The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko urged the U.S. “to be great again” demonstrating leadership in matters such as global security. The head of Ukrainian state said in an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the world economic forum in Davos.
Poroshenko stressed the importance of NATO as a bulwark to counter the aggressive policy of Russia.
“NATO is, in General, is not a question of money, it is a safety issue. Russian aggression has once again demonstrated the absence of any other security, in addition to NATO, which would be effective in countering the aggression”, – he said.
According to the President, to demonstrate its role as a global leader, the United States needs to forge transatlantic unity.
“America needs to be great again,” said Poroshenko, to paraphrase the famous slogan of the presidential campaign of Donald trump.
The President of Ukraine stressed the need for joint global efforts to stop Russian aggression, both military and in the field of cybersecurity.
“Russia is leading a global cyber war against the world, which is a set of evidence. This is a global threat and the world must unite to fight this danger,” – said Poroshenko and added that the Russian propaganda and cyber war are the elements of the hybrid war waged by the Kremlin.
The President also doubts that the new US administration may abandon support for the Ukraine. Poroshenko recalled the public statement trump that he will adhere to the obligations of Washington, and about encouraging announcements of candidates for office elected President.
“This gives us much greater optimism for the future,” said Poroshenko, adding that he intends to meet with trump already “a few months”.

In addition, the President expressed confidence that Ukraine will regain the occupied Russian Crimea.
“I have no doubt. This is the territory of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people. It was a gross violation of international law (occupation of the Crimea by Russia – ed.)”, – said Poroshenko.
