Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny submitted documents to the Central election Commission of the Russian Federation to participate in the presidential elections in 2018, according to Radio Liberty.

He later told reporters he is sure that the adoption of the documents will follow and register him as a candidate. The CEC staff said that on registration he will be informed few days before the New year.

On 23 December it was reported that the party United Russia supported Vladimir Putin’s decision.

About his intention to run besides Putin also declared Vladimir Zhirinovsky (LDPR), the Commissioner for entrepreneurs ‘ rights Boris Titov and TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak.
