The Spanish government appealed to the Constitutional court with request to annul the decision on the referendum on the independence of Catalonia. It is reported by the newspaper El Mundo.

Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has warned the Catalan government that the referendum is illegal and undemocratic, so the Central Executive authority “to protect the rule of law” and will not allow a referendum.

“In Catalonia there is a referendum on the question of self-determination”, – stated the Prime Minister.

Rajoy added that the issue of national sovereignty should solve all the inhabitants of Spain.

6 September 2017, the Parliament of Catalonia approved the holding of a referendum on independence.
